It’s never been easier to get a beautiful, straighter smile using our top-notch orthodontics at Wyndham Dental. A crooked or misaligned smile doesn’t just affect your confidence. Overtime, this can lead to recurring dental problems such as tooth decay & gum disease, soreness and facial aches. At Wyndham Dental, we offer expert orthodontic treatment and a highly experienced team to ensure your dental needs are in the safest hands.
As we mentioned earlier, teeth that do not sit properly can lead to many health problems. Orthodontics is the branch of dentistry that deals with correcting teeth and jaws that do not align correctly. This is a relatively long term treatment that makes use of devices such as braces and plates. Our skilled orthodontists at Wyndham Dental have years of experience and training to help develop the best treatment plan for your smile!
One of the most common misconceptions regarding orthodontics is that you have to be a younger patient to be a candidate. Patients of all ages are capable of receiving orthodontic treatment, starting as young as 4 years. Some signs that you may need treatment include:
During the initial consultation, our expert orthodontist will perform a comprehensive examination of your mouth to outline the best possible options available. Additional details such as x-rays or a mould of your teeth may be taken during this appointment to better plan out your treatment.
Braces work by exerting constant pressure that prompts your jaw to gradually conform into shape. You’ll have to visit our orthodontist every 6 to 8 weeks or as instructed to ensure your braces are well-adjusted at all times.
After your braces come off, you will have to wear retainers (plastic removable plates) to ensure your teeth remain stable and straight for a period of 3 months or longer.
The initial placement will take between one to two hours. While the length of treatment varies between individuals, orthodontic treatment is a relatively long-term process that can take an average of 1 to 3 years to complete.
In the days after your braces have been installed and during adjustments, you might feel some discomfort quite similar to soreness or dull throbbing. Pain relievers can be recommended for this, however.
Wyndham Dental is the safest choice for your orthodontic treatment because we offer:
This varies based on the severity of your case and your preferred orthodontic appliance. However, you can expect treatment to range from $3000 to $8000.
You’ll have to be a bit more careful when maintaining oral hygiene with braces. Food is especially prone to getting stuck between braces and teeth so make sure to brush regularly. Our orthodontist can also give you guidance on how to floss properly with braces.
You’ll also need to avoid certain foods that are more likely to get caught such as hard candy, gum or popcorn. We advise being careful when drinking sugary beverages and eating starchy foods as you will be at a slightly higher risk of tooth decay during this time.
You will need a period to adjust to your braces or invisalign but they do not prevent you from participating in sports. We do recommend getting a mouthguard you can fit in over your braces when playing contact sports, however.
