Let us explain what dental implants are and how they can impact your life.

The impact of dental implants can be tremendous. Getting back your natural smile, preserving the shape of your face, getting back the ability to speak normally, and not to mention, eating normally can do wonders for your confidence and self-esteem and more importantly your oral health.

Millions of individuals have had successful dental implants. It is a very safe and effective procedure to replace the tooth structure from the bone up, providing a near perfect replacement for your natural teeth.

Receiving dental implants is a relatively painless procedure that introduces an artificial tooth and root back into the jaw. This does require dental surgery to place a support implant into the jaw. After the implant is placed, typically an abutment (hardware the connects the implant to another device) is joined with the implant to allow an artificial tooth or prosthesis (bridge or denture) to be placed on top. In some cases, the abutment and tooth or prosthesis are connected and placed on the implant. In either case, this allows for a permanent connection of your artificial tooth or prosthesis with your jaw, just as your natural teeth would have been, creating a robust support for your tooth.

The implant is secured in the jaw by a process known as osseointegration. In simple terms, the implant and the bone are grown together. Therefore, even though implants can be inserted in one visit (certain types) it requires the fusing together of the implant and bone to be completed before implants are at 100% functioning capacity. Typically, getting dental implants usually happens over several months and several procedures.

For this reason, dental implants are unequaled in strength and durability once they have healed. You will not know the difference between the dental implant and your natural teeth because they are a part of your mouth providing you with the same comfort that your natural teeth did. Engaging in everyday activities such as eating, chewing, or chatting will be just as easy as if you had your natural teeth. Best of all it is possible for implants to last up to 25 years or even longer with good oral hygiene and maintenance.

Reasons to choose dental implants:

  • Look and feel like your natural teeth
  • The can improve your speech as compared to dentures
  • Eating and chewing are more natural
  • Confidence in your smile
  • The life of a dental implant can extend beyond 25years with proper care
  • Replaces the need for dentures
  • Improves your oral health, because dental implants don’t require removing material from your other teeth, leaving more of your own teeth intact.
